Connect PM51000 series power meter to SmartLogger3000
Background:
- The SmartLogger3000 can be connected to and manage multiple power meter that supports the Modbus-RTU.
- The SmartLogger3000 can be connected to and manage multiple power meters that support the DL/T645 protocol
NOTE:
Export+import meter: used for grid-tied point control. Each array allows only one export+import meter to be connected.
Production meter: PV output meter. Multiple production meters can be connected.
Consumption meter: load consumption meter. Multiple consumption meters can be connected. External production meter: third-party PV output meter. Multiple external production meters can be connected.
When there are strong electromagnetic disturbances, which may affect communication, a shielded cable (with two twisted signal conductors) should be used. The terminal resistances (RT=120...150Ω) must be installed on the converter side and on the last instrument connected along the line. Thanks to these resistances, the reflected signal along the line are reduced. However, in the case of short distances (max 100 m) or low communication speed (bps), there is no need of resistances.
Configure the communication and protocol for the port
Login to the WebUI as admin:
Select the Settings > Comm. Param., and choose RS485. On the displayed page, set Protocol to Modbus, set the parity and baud rate accordingly with the power meter instruction and Submit. On this example meter will be connected to COM3 port
The default settings for PM5000:
- Protocol: Modbus
- Baud rate: 19200
- Address: 1
- Parity: Even
- Stop Bit: 1
Setting up serial communications using the display.
- Navigate to .
- Enter the setup password (default is “0000”), then press OK.
- Press Comm.
- Move the cursor to point to the parameter you want to modify, then press Edit.
- Modify the parameter as required, then press OK.
- Move the cursor to point to the next parameter you want to modify, press Edit, make your changes, then press OK.
- Press the up arrow to exit. Press Yes to save your changes
Adding the power meter on the WebUI
As admin click the Maintenance tab and choose Device Mgmt. > Connect Device, and click Add Devices. In the displayed dialog box, set Device Type to Power Meter, Comm. protocol to Modbus RTU, Port number where the meter is connected, and specify Address correctly, as shown in the following figure:
The SmartLogger3000 can connect to multiple power meters with DL/T645 and Modbus RTU protocol. Ensure that the addresses of the power meters are not duplicated.
NOTE:
If you will connect the meter to the com port of Smartlogger first, you will receive the error "Failed to add (the communications is abnormal)".
Setting Power Meter type
As admin choose Monitoring > Select Power Meter > Running Param., select the power meter type Schneider-PM5100 and Submit:
Connect PM5000 with Smartlogger3000
NOTE:
Requirements for cable connection
NOTE:
You can set ratio of CT transformers by using PM5000 display
- Navigate to .

- Navigate to .
- Move the cursor to point to the parameter you want to modify, then press Edit.
- Modify the parameter as required, then press OK.
- Move the cursor to point to the next parameter you want to modify, press Edit, make your changes, then press OK.
- Press the up arrow to exit, then press Yes to save your changes.
Querying device running information
From Monitoring menu select the Power Meter and check the device status and the value that the meter reading is correct (in this examples power meter was connected to 1 phase):
